Prof Hennie van As

Prof Hennie van As, Prof Pierre de Vos (UCT) and Ms Grace Mbajiorgu (Univen), have been appointed to an expert panel by GiZ and the Office of the Presidency  to develop framework proposals to improve Parliament’s legislative programme to support  the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The specific objective of the assignment is to strengthen the monitoring of effective implementation of the legislative programme and the fulfilment of parliamentary responsibilities by members of the Executive. 

Prof Avinash Govindjee and Prof Joanna Botha

Their article Botha and Govindjee ‘Hate speech provisions and provisos: A response to Marais and Pretorius and proposals for reform’ PER (2017) vol 20 1-37 being recently cited with approval by the Constitutional Court in Qwelane v South African Human Rights Commission and others [2021] ZACC 22. [See footnotes 157 and 161.]

Dr Razaana Denson

Dr Denson has been selected to represent the university at the 2021 HERS-SA (Higher Education Resource Services South Africa) Academy for Women Leaders in Higher Education.  HERS-SA was founded in 2003 to address the critical shortage of women in senior positions in Higher Education. The organisation has been providing professional and leadership development opportunities for women in Higher Education in South Africa at its ACADEMY for 18 years, and has had over 1440 women to date attend this prestigious leadership development programme. There are only 80 spots available each year.

Mr Marc Welgemoed

Mr Welgemoed has successfully completed his LLD thesis and the degree will be conferred on him at the December 2021 graduation.. The title of his thesis is "Integration of Clinicial Legal Education with Procedural Law Modules.
